"INCIDENT_NAME": "1609 Moylan Rd SSO",
"INCIDENT_REPORT": "Incident Description: A fracture developed along the top of a tapping saddle on an 18-inch-diameter sanitary sewer force main, resulting in an uncontrolled sanitary sewer spill. Upon notification, Underground Utilities personnel responded to the incident and initiated excavation activities to expose the damaged tapping saddle, assess its condition, and provide access for repairs. Once the tapping saddle was exposed, crews shut down the upstream pump station on Joan Avenue to depressurize the force main and stop the discharge. Following cessation of flow, repair personnel welded the fractured section of the tapping saddle to reestablish a watertight seal. The incident resulted in an estimated discharge of approximately 16,565 gallons of untreated sewage, a portion of which entered an adjacent stormwater drainage system. SIS personnel assisted with spill containment, recovery, and site cleanup operations. Sewage that entered the stormwater drainage system and accumulated on adjacent ground surfaces was recovered. Following completion of recovery operations, affected ground surfaces were treated with lime as part of the site remediation efforts. The incident did not result in any impacts to receiving surface waters.
