"INCIDENT_REPORT": "On October 24, 2026, at approximately 8:58 AM, staff were notified of a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) located near 12500 Cortez Rd W in Bradenton. The SSO occurred when a contractor, BDE, was excavating in preparation for replacing a sewer force main service line. The contractor hit an existing 2-inch force main valve, causing raw wastewater to spill at the excavation site. The contractor excavated a new plastic-lined pit and began pumping spill water into it from the initial excavation site. Utilities staff used vacuum trucks to transport the spilled wastewater from the plastic-lined area to a downstream lift station. Contractors repaired the valve, stopping the spill at approximately 1:24 PM. The total spill volume was estimated at 2,700 gallons and all was recovered. Lime was applied to affected excavation spill site. No spilled wastewater left the lined excavation site nor entered any storm drains during this event.",
