"INCIDENT_NAME": "Apopka Elementary School",
"INCIDENT_REPORT": "The OCPS Environmental Compliance Department was notified this morning of a sewage overflow affecting the school playgrounds. School staff reported an issue with a lift station yesterday morning. A plumbing contractor was dispatched and identified a crack in a wastewater pipe located on OCPS property. The investigation also determined that the lift station is owned and operated by the City of Apopka. Preliminary information indicates that a contractor not affiliated with OCPS connected to the OCPS wastewater line, resulting in sewage backing up onto OCPS property. By the end of the day, sewage had surfaced through the ground from the damaged pipe, impacting two playground areas. The overflow (est. 2,500 gal) did not enter any storm drains or nearby waterways. The affected areas were immediately secured to prevent access, and repair and remediation efforts are currently underway. Representatives from the City of Apopka are on-site assisting with the response and investigation. At this time, it has not been determined whether the backflow pressure caused the pipe to fail or whether the pipe had a pre-existing defect prior to the incident. The cause of the pipe failure remains under investigation.",
