To learn more about cyanobacteria, please visit: https://www.deq.nc.gov/water-resources/blue-green-algae/open. This report was forwarded to NC Wildlife (https://www.ncwildlife.gov/) for the concerns of ducks.\nStormwater/retention ponds are designed to collect, temporarily store, and clean stormwater from surface runoffs. They’re susceptible to growth of aquatic plants and/or algal blooms because of nutrients from runoffs, and relatively small waterbody which is often shallow and enclosed.\nNCDEQ advises the public to avoid contact with discolored water that could indicate the presence of an algal bloom. The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services Division of Public Health (DPH) routinely encourages the public to avoid contact with waters with large accumulations of algae and to prevent children and pets from swimming or ingesting water in an algal bloom. Remember: When in doubt, stay out. \nFor more information on the potential health effects from algal blooms, visit the DPH website: https://epi.dph.ncdhhs.gov/oee/a_z/algal_blooms.html?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery \nDPH also reminds the public to take precautions as other microorganisms or pollution may be present in waterbodies that can lead to recreational water illness: https://epi.dph.ncdhhs.gov/cd/water/prevent.html ",
