"incident_comment": "Location of Overflow: Easement near the address of 7149 Brandy Hill Terrace\nFacility & VPDES Permit # Henrico Water Reclamation via Beaverdam wwps - VA0063690\nDate/Time DEQ Notified - The DEQ was notified by email on 6-22-2026\nEstimated Volume/Receiving Stream - Approximately 11000 gallons of untreated domestic sanitary sewage in Brandy Branch which leads to Beaverdam Creek.\nDate & Duration of Overflow - The discharge was reported to Hanover DPU at 10:15 on 6-22 and was stopped at 13:55 on 6-22. It is unknown as to when the discharge began.\nDescription - Hanover DPU received notification of a a foul odor while walking a wooded trail near 7149 Brandy Hill Terrace at 10:15 on 6-22-26. DPU personnel immediately visited the location and began walking the sewer easement to determine if there was a problem. DPU ultimately found a broken 10” asbestos cement pipe at a creek crossing. The sewer line was not known to be exposed and has become exposed via creek bed erosion. The ultimate cause of the break was a tree falling on the pipeline from outside of the easement. DPU crews commenced repairs immediately to replace the broken portion of pipe and stopped the discharge at 13:55 on 6-22. DPU has taken measures to secure the pipe in place, however, investigative efforts will be taking place over the next few weeks to identify means to better secure the sewer pipeline.\nCause - 10” gravity sewer struck exposed during creek bed erosion coupled with damage from a fallen tree.\nAction Taken - DPU received the initial call at 10:15 on 6-22 and immediately visited the site to search for a possible issue. Upon finding a damaged sewer line at the \ncreek crossing, repairs were initiated to replace a 14’ long portion of the 10” asbestos cement pipeline. This line was not known to be exposed in the creek bed and had become exposed during storm erosion of the creek bed. The discharge was stopped completely at 13:55 on 6-22. The pipeline has been secured in place and is being checked periodically and after storms to verify its condition. DPU will be investigating methods to further secure the pipeline in an effort to prevent further breaks in the future. \nComments - DPU personnel will continue to respond to all overflows in a timely manner to minimize the duration of overflow events.",
