1. Reported wastewater outlet

Operator named in the record: not named (federal wastewater discharge permit, NPDES, VA0003077). Outlet: not stated. Location: 37.35035, -77.29133; location source: geocoded from an address or place name.

Outfall: a pipe or outlet where wastewater enters a water body.

2. Waters named in the notice

The notice names no water. Not linked to a mapped water.

3. Estimated downstream stretch

We estimate routes only on rivers before they become tidal. We do not estimate routes through tidal water or lakes.

Map sources: water outlines and launches from OpenBoatLaunch and OpenStreetMap contributors (Open Database License); wastewater outlets from EPA and state records; downstream estimates by DirtyWaterWatch using U.S. Geological Survey maps and flow data. Base map: OpenFreeMap and OpenMapTiles.

"incident_comment": "Overnight August 16 – 17, 2026, the Mylar Hopewell Plant received almost 4” of rain. On August 17, around 12:00pm, a wastewater treatment plant operator reported a potential overflow of the sanitary plant due to the rain. While we did not observe an overflow, we did see water on the ground, and we are treating it as if an overflow occurred. An industrial waste contractor has already removed and properly disposed the potential soil affected. The potential overflow did not appear to reach the adjacent waterway and appeared to have only impacted the soil immediately adjacent to the sanitary plant. The potential discharge would have flowed back into the collection system and routed back to the sanitary plant. \n \nWe had identified a hole in the sanitary system, and have had it repaired by a local contractor. We were never able to definitively prove that on actual overflow did occur but as stated in the initial report we still treated as such. The volume and length of time could not be identified since it was never observed overflowing.",
