"incident_comment": "On September 2, 2026, [name removed], Operator at the Pennington Gap WWTP, provided email notification reporting that a manhole overflow occurred along the Pennington Gap Green Belt walking trail on September 2, 2026. The overflow started approximately 8:00am on September 2nd when the Town of Pennington Gap Public Works Department had to plug the sewer line upstream to make repairs due to a partial blockage of the same sewer line downstream from the overflow site. Evidence revealed a blockage near a manhole in the River Bend Shopping Center parking lot. Current excavation to uncover and unclog/replace the section of sewer line in the parking lot is underway. On September 8, 2026, DEQ received the 5-day written report noting that 30 feet of sewer line was replaced. The overflow ended at 4:45pm on September 3, 2026. The estimated amount of the overflow was 100,000 gallons and the report indicated that the overflow did not reach any waterways. The incident was closed on September 9, 2026.",
