"incident_comment": "Owner of Conveyance: Town of Claremont\nLocation of Discharge: 687 Villa Road, Sewer Pump Station 1\nIncident Type:\tSmall spillage due to sewer pumps being turned off\nDate of Incident: 9/27/2026\nTime of Incident: 10:00 am\nDate Incident Resolved:\t9/27/2026\nTime Incident Resolved:\t2:30 pm\nVolume of Discharge in Gallons: 1-2 gallons\nVolume Calculation or Estimation Method: Visual\nDescription and Cause of Discharge: On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, a significant Nor'easter came through Claremont Beach. All four pump stations on Villa Road were turned off to protect the pumps and to keep the sewage drain fields from being inundated with flood waters. All property owners were notified via the IRIS alert system to not use water or sewer as the pumps had been temporarily turned off due to the flooding.\nRemedial Actions Taken: Upon investigating the complaint, the Town determined a very small amount of liquids, estimated be between 1-2 gallons did escape through the holes in the fully secured lid onto gravel. Flood waters had begun to recede when the seeping was noted. Pumps were turned back on Sunday 9/27/26 at 2:30 pm & all tanks have been completed pumped to the drain fields located up the hill in the Town.\nReceiving Water Body: James River – however no liquid was determined to have entered into the river.\nSteps Taken or Planned to Reduce, Eliminate, and Prevent Reoccurrence: We will continue to implement the IRIS alert system to notify all sewer customers and stress that there is to be no use of water or sewer during flooding or a weather event of this nature. At this time, we are also reaching out to VML (Virginia Municipal League) and our attorney to determine if in the future we can institute a mandatory evacuation during this type of weather event.",
